Independent prescribing by Optometrists in a Community Setting

This article reviews how independent prescribing Optometrists already enhance eye health services in community practice and how each clinician can work within the boundaries of their own knowledge and skills.

It is well documented that hospital eye departments and GP surgeries are struggling to meet the eye health demands of a growing and ageing population. Optometrists are perfectly placed to manage many of these cases safely, effectively, and locally.

This article covers four clinical cases: Acute Anterior Uveitis, Episcleritis, Acute Dacryocyctitis and Blepharitis.
