Vision and Driving

The aim of this article is to review the visual standards for driving in the UK and to consider the role of the optometrist in applying these standards. Optometrists commonly need to advise patients whether they meet the visual standards for driving without correction or need refractive correction to do so, and advice is provided on interpreting the standards for these purposes. Optometrists also have a role in advising patients who do not meet the visual standards for driving, and advice on best practices to follow in these circumstances are considered.
